"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"
December 2015
Fabio and Laura organized the first athletics competition under the name, "More than conquerors" in Cachi, Salta, Argentina recently.
“We started with the race walking, women's 2000 m and 3000 m boys. Then we went to the 400 m, 100 m, 200 m and 800 m and ended up with the long jump. There were many improvements of personal bests including some outstanding marks. But what is most important that we all had fun.
“At the end we gave out many gifts and prizes to the winners. Thanks to the parents for entrusting us their children. We have almost finished two years of providing support to children and young people from Cachi”.
In the Argentinean National Championships Fabio took silver for Salta in the 10,000m walk, in 47.05. He was fairly pleased given that his priorities have shifted a lot over the last year or so, from competing to coaching. Laura said:"More than anything he went to represent Salta and hopefully secure an athlete's bursary for next year!!"
Laura ran the 5,000 on the hottest day of the year in Mar del Plata. She ran a PB of 17.37.79 (777, does that make it divine?), and ended up finishing second! Although of course, not being Argentine, she did get an official placing! Her time was all the more remarkable as the heat took its toll on everyone, with all times seeming to be affected by about 15/20 seconds. Laura said afterwards, “Really pleased overall to have overcome the temperature and to have run a PB in it, to have felt so good and that things actually went well! Just hopeful that I will continue to be fit and healthy and continue this run of consistency...always been the biggest challenge”.
