If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.

Faith

Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11 recounts all the great heroes of faith who chose to look beyond the challenges of their human existence and put their trust in God. When the going is tough in our lives – injury, not enough game time, contractual uncertainty, unable to perform the way we want to or something in our family or personal circumstances – we can, in faith, choose to persevere.

The reference in verse 3 to accepting by faith that the universe was formed at God’s command is very relevant in the modern world. It frees us from getting lost in questions of process – evolution, big bang etc – to concentrate on the essential fact that whatever the process there is a creator God behind it all.

Sometimes we have to learn to trust God when it hurts, when He seems to be taking us along a path we would not choose to go ourselves, which seems in human terms to be a disaster for us professionally. We need to be able to retain confidence in God about things we cannot see. We need to have confidence that God is in control and trust him to take us to where we need to get to.

In practice it is not easy but God will reward us for our faith and faithfulness.
