"God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast and when I run, I feel his pleasure."

Eric Liddell in Chariots of Fire

Psalm 150

1 Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD

Wes Neal paraphrased this Psalm in sporty language: “Let the energy flow from within, reflecting His greatness. Praise Him through your stamina. Let the melody of your song before Him be seen in the quickness of your reflexes and dexterity of your fingers. Praise God through the rhythm of your strides. Shout His praise with perfect timing. Shout praises to the Lord with every fiber in your body*”.

Praising God with music is great and an important part of church services. But what about when we are in the gym, on the track or in competition? We can still praise God and do it by giving our bodies, our sweat and our effort as a “living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1)
