"God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast and when I run, I feel his pleasure."

The gospel

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

When looking at the Bible for inspiration for our sporting lives, it is easy to look for a passage with a vague passing reference to sport. Sometimes, however, it is better to get back to basics. If we understand the gospel we are prepared for life and for sport.

If there is a better one sentence summary of the gospel in the Bible than that verse, then I am not sure where it is! The essence of the gospel is Jesus taking the punishment for my sins that I deserve on himself. And the result is that I have become not only righteous in the sight of God but “the righteousness of God”. Our identity and significance as people is based on that verse – we are people for whom Jesus died and who are righteous as a result! It does not depend on our own achievements.

If we understand that we are ready to compete with no stress!
