The Official book, Carlton Books, 2019 ISBN: 978-1-78739-216-8

With the Lionesses on the crest of a wave and Scotland having qualified for their first World Cup, there is more excitement about the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which takes place in France (7 June to 7 July 2019) than there has ever been. The Official Book will tell you all you need to know.

There are profiles of each of the 24 countries – coach, key players, record at previous World Cups plus a narrative assessment of the chances of each country. Talking of coaches, I was interested to see that 15 countries have a male coach and 9 a female one.

There is an extra section on French football – strengths, history and statistics. As one would expect from Carlton, there are spectacular photos on every page of players and of some of the ironic stadia which will host the games. There is even a small chart on which to enter all the results.

Finally the book will help you avoid confusing the Lionesses (England) with Les Lionnes (Cameroon)!
