If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.

Thanks Johnners, Jonathan Agnew, London, Blue Door, Harper Collins, 2010
The sub-title is “An affectionate tribute to a broadcasting legend”. The book is a tribute to the first BBC cricket correspondent by the current one. Jonathan Agnew tells his own story of joining Test Match Special as a junior member and moving up the hierarchy.
He describes at all points his interactions with Brian Johnston, including a practical joke he played on Brian who, of course, took full revenge!
The final sentences of the book are: “He gave TMS its soul and with a few colleagues created a quirky, welcoming and unique radio programme that is much more than just commentary on a cricket match. It is something very precious; it is the legacy of our friend and my mentor, Brian Johnston”.
Anyone who like me has been a regular listener to TMC over the past 30 years and who enjoyed Johnners’ mischievous sense of humour, will love the book.
