“All I know most surely about morality and obligation I owe to football”,

Albert Camus

Nick Farr-Jones

Return to the book list for this category.

Peter Fitzsimons, Random House, Australia, 1993

Nick Farr-Jones played rugby union as a scrum-half for Australia 63 times, 1984-1993 including 36 games as captain. He played all his club rugby in Australia.

The book describes his first real contact with Christianity when a girl invited him to a church service. The book says that he found the whole thing so enjoyable that he started to go back every Sunday and his social life soon revolved around a group of young Christians. He is quoted as saying “after a month or so I was really touched by Christianity and the people and after about two months I started to get this warm feeling and understand the gospel. I ended up making a big commitment to Christ”.

The book describes how Nick had an explosive temper but that Christianity had given him a more rounded gentler view of the world -although there are also references to times when he did not fully control the temper.
