The World according to Bumble, David Lloyd, London, Harper Collins, 2010
This is an easy-read account of David Lloyd’s view of the world. It is full of stories from his life touring the world as a professional cricket player, umpire, coach and commentator and includes some great stories.
The book is at its best when Lloyd as a former umpire and now TV man analyses the use of technology in decision making (184ff). His forthright views on the relationship between Twenty 20 and tests and the need for structural changes in the game are excellent.
On the other hand I could have lived happily without knowing which pubs he drinks in, what his tastes in music are or without the detailed profiles of his drinking mates.
I was interested in the reference (Page 13) to his Christian upbringing and to my friend Andrew Wingfield Digby as a fishing companion.
A take it or leave it book.
