An analysis of headstones in a Belfast cemetery reveals that 2% had a sporting motif with 11 football clubs included. The catchy title of the paper informs us that 20 Liverpool supporters but only 10 Manchester United supporters are buried there!
One conclusion drawn by Gibson is that many people find their community in fellow supporters of their club, rather than in the church. He also argues that how people wish to be remembered in death gives a helpful insight into the world in which Christians minister.
