“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

Scotland’s evangelist – DP Thompson

Return to the book list for titles beginning with 's'.

Frank Bardgett, Handsel Press, 2010 ISBN 978-1-871828-71-9

DP Thompson was a contemporary of Eric Liddell, who encouraged Liddell to use his fame as a runner to speak about his faith. I purchased the book in the expectation that it would include some interesting information on Liddell. There is a poster about a meeting in Edinburgh and a picture from a PowerPoint. It is stated that “it may not be too much to say that DP introduced Liddell to Christian mission”. There is a reference to Liddell as a “modest, unassuming and very popular man”. However there only 4 references to Liddell in a 400 page book. In fact there are more references to CT Studd. That the book refers to Liddell winning Olympic gold at 440 yards may indicate that the author did not have a lot of interest in sport!
