Blessing

Blessed are you who are poor. Luke 6:20

John Harris wrote about Luke 6, “Today far too many have forgotten the power and importance of blessing others in God’s name”. That was a challenge to me. Do I bless people? To I pray for God’s blessing on the athletes I try to serve?

Harris continues: “A blessing is a declaration that God will bless the recipient, based on our assurance that our loving God not only redeems us but cares about us”.

The significance of the blessing quoted being for the poor is that the poor are looked down on, regarded as unimportant. Jesus is making clear that God’s blessings can reach everyone. Think of people in your circle on whom you can pray a blessing. Pray that they would experience God’s love and presence in a special way. Pray that whatever is going on in their lives good or bad, easy of difficult that they would know God’s hand of blessing on them.

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
