“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

God’s tattoo

I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. Isaiah 49:16

It is quite a mind-boggling idea that God has a tattoo of us on the palms of his hand! The point is to show that God loves us, cares for us, and will never forget us.

While life is hard and when God seems distant, this is a great encouragement. British athletes live in the shadow of Powerof10 website, which records every race, jump or throw – yes including that one on a wet cold Tuesday evening that they would rather forget. What an encouragement to know that you are engraved on God’s hands, irrespective of the time, height or distance.

Hands evoke powerful images. As Jesus promised, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand” John 10:28-9

In the preceding verses we read an accusation that God has forgotten his people. The answer is that a mother could forget her baby but God will never forget his people. And just to be sure, he has engraved you on the palm of his hand.

Just a simple thought this week, but one to carry with you.
