If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.

Everlasting

I have loved you with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3

Only God can do everlasting! As humans we are aware of how short our life is and how quickly it passes. I read a tweet this morning “Can it really be 20 years since Ayrton Senna died (I can’t be that old)”. I know exactly what she means. For a person in sport, this is multiplied. The career is so short. You are fortunate if you make two Olympic cycles in peak form and fitness. They say NFL stands for “Not for Long”. And to depress you even more the end of your career is always just one serious injury away.

So howdoes an everlasting promise sound in that context? What God promises us will never end! Can you get your head around that? I can’t.

During the London Olympics, I remember thinking regularly “I don’t want this to end. I am having so much fun!”

That is what God promises us. “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived - the things God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9) and it lasts forever.

And on days when it is hard, it is good to remember how much God loves you and that he will love you forever.
