God knows best

This is what the LORD says – your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea’. Isaiah 48:17,18

We often find it hard to believe the simple truth that God knows best! We all kinda like to think we know best. God reveals himself to Isaiah as the one who teaches us what is best for us. So many Bible characters before us have learned that the hard way.

There are few sights of natural beauty greater than water – whether a slow flowing river or the endless waves of the sea. God promises that if we believe him and accept his teaching, we will have peace like that slow flowing river and well-being like those waves of the sea.

Life can be hard. We are human. We get ill, we lose loved ones, we lose our job. As athletes we get injured, lose our form, fail to perform the way we know we can. Our coach does not value us, our sponsor drops us, we don’t make the team. The list is endless. God does not promise us an easy life but he does promise us to be there with us, giving us that peace like a river and a deep well-being. Whatever the challenge you are going through, God promises to be there.
