"Football is not a matter of life and death, it is more important than that."

Bill Shankly, Liverpool Football manager

Who is God?

The Lord, he who created you Isaiah 43:1

Isaiah, writing thousands of years ago, expressed some timeless truths about who God is.

Creator (43:1)

The starting point in our understanding of God is that He is our creator. Isaiah says that God created and formed us.

Redeemer and Saviour (43:1,3)

He is our redeemer – He paid a price to redeem us – and Jesus is our Saviour. He died to save us.

Holy One (43:3)

We need also to remember that God is Holy. We are not his equal. He is holy and separated from us because we are sinful people.

Present (43:3)

Several places in chapter 43 Isaiah refer to God’s presence with us. When we are in difficulty He is with us.

When training (or life) is hard, when we compete, when we are injured, not selected, disappointed or celebrating – whatever – remember that God is our creator, our Saviour and that He has promised to be with us.
