"Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play…it is war minus the shooting."

George Orwell

Cote d'Ivoire

In early June Stuart spent a week in Ivory Coast. He was there to teach on ministry to the serious [performance orientated] sports person at West African francophone conference. There were about 18 people from Ivory Coast, Benin, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo and Burkina Faso.

He did 8 sessions of 1-2 hours depending on how much discussion there was. Once he spoke for 30 minutes and gave them a discussion question. There was such an animated discussion for over an hour that he just sat and listened! Stuart said: "I did all the teaching in French and coped reasonably well. The challenge was to pick up points made in discussion across the table with a great variety of accents".

A particular joy was to be able to give every delegate a copy of Stuart's book "What the book says about sport" in French.
