"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"

Willie John McBride, Irish Rugby player

Living hope

In his great mercy God has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4

I once tried to get a video of a professional footballer's best ever goal. The TV company could not find it and concluded that someone had wiped the tape. The record of his best moment gone!

God's birth brings with it the promise of a living hope that can never perish, spoil or fade or have the tape wiped! And just to be sure, he keeps it in heaven. That, if nothing else, can give us hope for the future and a certainty of our inheritance.

Sometimes life is hard. It is a battle. It can seem hopeless. In sport more than most walks of life, things can change instantly. Yesterday's hero can be today's villain. That is why we need to look beyond today's result and put our hope in what can never disappoint us, the things that God has promised to keep for us in heaven
