"Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play…it is war minus the shooting."
Redeemed
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself 2 Corinthians 5:19
Just as sin affected everything negatively, so the death of Christ affects everything positively. If we believe that Jesus Christ died to restore our broken relationship with God, then that has implications for the whole of our lives.
When we allow God to take control of our lives, all the broken things - from saying our prayers, to making love, to playing sport - begin to be mended. God starts to address them and work inside us. He starts to deal with our lives as the Holy Spirit speaks to us through a word, through preaching, through friends.
As we pray and read the Bible, he challenges us about aspects of our lives which are not right. This applies to everything from our relationships to how we play against the right winger.
Grasping this truth about God as creator and redeemer must also affect our attitude to him. If he is the creator of all things, we have an inescapable obligation to worship him in all things and at all times - including sport.
The world of sport is permeated by sin but let us get involved as Christians and win it for Jesus. Let us seem to redeem and restore the world to sport to the way God intended it to be.
