If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.

World Athletics Championships 2007

I am always excited to know of Christians who are involved in high-level sport. Last week two followers of Jesus had success in the World Athletics Championship - Allyson Felix and Catherine Ndereba. Allyson won gold in the 200 metres and in both the 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 metre relays. Catherine won the marathon.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of meeting both of them. Both of them believe that sport is an integral part of their Christian life. Catherine said, "I am aware of Jesus when I am running. Without Him I can't even to take a step. There is nothing I can do without Him".

Allyson said "I can't imagine my life without knowing Jesus. I can't imagine just waking up and going through my life without him so you know he is my life and that's what I live for".

Of course, their successes do not add anything to the truth of the gospel! We must never give the impression that they do. Let us rather thank God for them and pray for them as they seek to be faithful to Jesus while competing at the top level.
